Name: Nichol Shard

Sex: Male
Personality: This kid is hard to read. He'd be a master at poker, because that's how stoic he is. Almost lifeless. But that doesn't mean he isn't without emotions. He's an introvert almost to the extreme. But is also a bit cold. He hardly ever says what he thinks. But he is generally kind and is good to people so long as they don't give him reason to dislike them.

However, he's the type to leave when the going gets tough. Unless dragged with him kicking and screaming back at it. He's quick to abandon people and things if it's not going well. Even clients. He also gets frustrated easily...one of the few times his emotions are actually readable on his face. He generally takes a stance of non-interference, even if what someone is doing is bad, except in a rare case that someone catches his eye. And even in those, it's a light one, often providing support or a temporary escape.

He is a little vindictive when it comes to his size and physical features. If you want a response, that's the way to do it.

He's a guide at heart. He knows his geography and he likes to explore. Ruins, caves, you name it. He tends to stay away from the slave cities though. With his looks and magical ability, he'd be a fine prize. He doesn't know much about his origins, just that his father visited his home island, and then left, leaving his mother alone to raise him. Which didn't last long. He doesn't get close to people precisely because of those abandonment issues.

However, he is curious as to who his father is, as he apparently cared enough to leave him a short sword. And set out to find him and maybe get some answers. That said, he was given the surname of Shard, as with other fatherless children or orphans on his home island.

Likes/dislikes: Jewels and precious stones. Finding new natural springs. Clients that don't listen to him. Heanta/slavers in general. Loud places.
Fears: Getting close to someone only for them to abandon him. Alpha Predators. Being enslaved.

Appearance

Height: Five foot even.
Weight: 95 lbs.
Appearance: He is surprisingly pale considering the amount of time he spend outdoors, especially his near platinum blond hair. He has a diamond shaped tattoo in the middle of his forehead that is dark red or brown in color, depending on the light you see it in, but it is often hidden by his hair. He also has a facial scar on his right cheek. His eyes are a dark blue, and appears as if he's dead, not helping that he's very stoic already. Aside from the one scar, he doesn't have any marks, showing his cautious nature. Lean and lithe, he's hairless aside from his head, earning some teasing...though the perpetrators are then often encased in crystal or pinned by crystal shards afterwards. He's light, and it shows, both in his nimbleness and how easy it is to knock him around.

Clothing: brown, green, or black pants with black boots or shoes, and a brown cloak are his typical clothing. He sometimes wears a brown tank top styled shirt, but is usually shirtless. He also has a crystal earring in his left ear and a black band around his neck.

Fighting style


General Fighting Tactics: He starts off with his short bow when possible, and then switches to melee. Relying more on his reaction time to keep him alive, he relies strictly on his weapons and magic power for his offensive power. He carries around twenty pounds of crystals of varying sizes, from sand, to larger, blockier ones, and uses those for his main offensive strength (his magic attacks/abilities, also used defensively). Perfect for bypassing armor or defeating magic attacks. He's a flexible fighter that can fight at all ranges, though with a heavy preference for longer range.

Strengths: High Heat tolerance: Having conditioned himself to the Crystal Badlands and the Magma Fields of his home island, he can last longer than normal in high heat and dry environments like deserts.

Magical Control: His magical control is pretty good, surprisingly so. Making precise strikes with his crystal manipulation an easy feat.

Weaknesses: Hand to hand combat: He's a child with lower than average strength. He can't brawl all that effectively, having to rely strictly on his weapons or magic power for his combat strength.

Sonic Attacks: He's more susceptible to sonic attacks than a normal person. Taking 20% more damage than normal. Also, he's more sensitive to loud noises than others, often ruining his concentration or paralyzing him more quickly than anyone else. Or at a quieter level than anyone else.

Weapons


Primary Weapon I: An ornate sword passed down from his missing father, see the picture below. It isn't made by divinium, but from enchanted steel. It is a short sword with a blade length of 15 inches, but is also four inches wide at the widest part.

Flavor text: His father wanted to leave behind a weapon that was going to be fairly easy to wield, but not one that was going to be shit either. So he left his trusty side arm.

Primary Weapon II: See the picture for his goggles. They're enchanted. But design wise, it's genius. Extremely easy to maintain while still being incredibly durable and easily fixed when broken makes it the envy of inventors, especially the glass, which changes hues to act like sunglasses when in the presence of light, similar to transition lenses. The glass was made from a type of crystal found only on his home island, giving it such a property. But it's the enchantments that make it stand out.

Enchantment 1: Eagle Eye: Think binoculars. He can see incredible distances with them or use them like a magnifying glass. He can see up to one mile with them (as in focus on an object mile away and tell what it is, not to read a letter or anything that small.)
Enchantment 2: Night Vision: Self explanatory. He can see in the dark with them on.
Enchantment 3: Heat Vision: He can see body temperatures and the temperature around him. The range is limited to about 35 feet, however.

Secondary Weapon: A short bow made of twilight wood, said to have been made in the nearby Eldari lands. See below.

Battle Mode


Name: Diffuse and Reflect
Type: Defensive
Damage Category: Average
Description: Perfect against energy based magic attacks, he uses the sand crystals to diffuse the energy first, and then uses his larger pieces to reflect the attack back as a barrage of smaller attacks equal in strength to the original (average). Against stronger attacks, it simply weakens them by two stages. The smaller the attack, the less it "diffuses" and the smaller the barrage (says baseball sized attack is diffused into five beams of whatever it is, and is then reflected back). But if the average powered attack is larger than five by five, it is only partially affected. Generally, the larger the attack, the more it diffuses, and the "thicker" (more attacks) the barrage (max barrage being 35). (Liquid based magic attacks can be split apart, but not reflected, but otherwise same on everything else. Does not effect solid based magic attacks.)

Name: Giga Drill
Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Strong
Description: Using his larger chunks of crystal, he forms a drill (A foot at the widest) and spins it at high speed, and shoves it into an opponent. Shields and heavy armor can stall it, but unless it's made from a special material, it'll go through it. It is a close range attack (five feet maximum).

Name: Crystal Wall
Type: Defensive
Damage Category: Weak
Description: A small shield of crystal is made, that is only three feet by two feet. It blocks weak attacks with ease, though only one.

Name: Diamond Storm
Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Very Weak up to X10
Description: He fires a small crystal at an opponent. Or ten of them in a barrage.
Cooldown: 1 if used ten times or fires a barrage of ten.

Name: Crystal weapon constructs
Type: Support
Damage Category: N/A
Description: He can form a small weapon (like a dagger) or a ten foot whip attached to his hand. The crystals are most scarred by this use of this ability. Think of it as crystal manipulation light. He can do up to two small weapons or two ten foot whips, but using a second one uses up a second power point. The crystals must be within  three feet of him for him to "draw" on them to form a weapon in his hands/arm.
Cooldown: Passive. When active, takes a power point to maintain. Can be deactivated.


Enhanced Battle Mode (Unlocked at R-1)

Appearance: The pupils in his eyes turn into a diamond shape. Ornate lines show on his upper torso and arms, glowing with purple energy. No other change occurs.

New powers

Name: Crystal Forge
Element: Crystal
Description: They can manipulate their element in several ways. They can create walls, shoot projectiles and in general use the ability to attack or defend. They can create spikes or pillars, the maximum being 10ft long and 1ft wide, or create walls of their element 5 x 5 ft wide and tall. They can launch small, medium or large projectiles, which travel up to 100ft, 50ft or 25ft respectively, and deal more physical damage for their size.

He often lets it float around him or his hands and manipulates it like a bender. Best used in tunnels deep underground, where crystal is more likely to grow and form. And is much easier to "dig" out. And faster.

Cooldown: 3 post duration, two post cooldown.

Name: Tracking Jewel
Type: Support
Damage Category: N/A
Description: A jewel is slipped onto the target, and will give a signal that is detectable by Nichol. With it, he can track that person for 2000 feet, given they don't find the jewel and discard it. Or after five posts (it cannot be reactivated, and can only track one at a time, as in only the most recently "made" one).
Cooldown: passive.

Name: Crystal Armor
Type: Defensive
Damage Category: N/A
Description: Over parts of his body, he can form a crystal armor, giving him the protection of heavy armor. That said, it also comes with it's downsides of mobility in those parts. It can only cover a single part (torso, head, one arm, one forearm, one leg, etc.). This lasts for 2 posts.
Cooldown: Three post cooldown

Name: Crystal Golem
Type: Support
Description: A summoning spell, he free forms a sigil of his crystals, creating a type of portal, allowing a crystal golem to come out.

Summon Name: Golem
Summon Description: It is bound to his will, and will thus protect him and attack his foes. Physically imposing, it is very powerful and durable, but also extremely slow. It has no magic attacks, and it is often ten feet tall, and 800 lbs. in weight. Otherwise, it stays on the field for four posts, which it will be transported back to the depths from whence it came. It is a standard Crystal Golem, vaguely humanoid in shape.

Description: He just makes it out of the crystals he has in is possession or around him.

Summon Name: Wraith
Summon Description: The wraith looks similar to a winged, legless scorpion made of crystal. It is fast, but fragile, and fires very weak arrows or barbs of wind, lightning, or fire (the crystal on it's tail being white, purple, or red respectively, and if it fires ten shots in a post, it'll incur a one post cd). It can take orders or act semi-independently of Nichol, and tries to flank and harass opponents from the sides or back. It also has a pair of small arms with two claws and a small beak like mouth that it can choose to attack with, but it isn't very strong most can easily overpower it as it is half Nichol's size (2.5 feet in length).

Background


History: Nichol never knew a father. And his mother cooked for a living, a draining job that left her little time with her stoic son. Though she desperately tried. Nichol often ventured out into the Crystal Badlands and the Magma Fields on their little island. And being found and sent back home. When he was six, his mother, literally the only person that was close to him, passed away, in an effort to rescue trapped minors. While he had issues connecting with people, at least his eyes showed some emotion, but since then, they almost became dead, and he withdrew from the world. Diving into his mother's diaries and notes, he found that his father did leave him a blade, and soon found it. But never really forgave her for leaving him. Since no one really helped him either, but allowed him to stay in his own home...even zealously protecting it from others. Literally the only thing they did for him.

He never knew why. Probably because his father was a foreigner. And while not hostile or anything like that to those outside their island, even welcoming for business, any child born on the island with a foreigner as a parent were not seen in good light. At least, if the parent didn't stay. The Crystal Isles were old fashioned in that way.

A year after, he continued to venture into the two forbidden zones, exploring, though never getting into any real trouble. He'd always back off when things didn't look right. Though one day, his luck ran out. And was saved by a visiting Eldross. Taking pity on the boy, she taught him how to wield a sword and bow, even gifting him with a short bow that she had been working on for a month and a half. This lasted three years. Then the woman named his training complete, and left before she could see his magical potential.

She had made it abundantly clear that she wasn't going to stay, so he never begrudged her. He was ten at the time. And found he could manipulate crystals and precious jewels when he rescued a crystalline creature. He dove into the library's books about magic and manipulation of crystal, and practiced for two years. In between that time, he started to take in clients to guide them through the Crystal Badlands and the Magma Fields, being recommended by the locals, seeing how much he'd explored the places. Compared to the travelers there, he had a natural resistance to the harsh environment. Though his eyes did suffer a bit from the brightness. He saved up enough to buy a special pair of goggles that were enchanted. And soon left after saving up enough to leave in search of his missing father, the only clue being an insignia of a sun with a sword in front of it.

It was curious to him why the man left, leaving him with a short sword. He hoped to find him, and get some answers. Fifteen now, he is in the middle of the nearby Eldari lands after travelling by boat and then by walking.
