Character information

Name: Gwyneth “Gwyn” Ferrum Aurora
Age: 31
True Age: 37
Sex: Female
Personality: Gwyneth Ferrum Aurora, or Gwyn for short, is a cunning and arrogant woman who uses manipulation, charm, intimidation, or her powers to get what she wants often at the expense of others. She is malicious and mildly unstable, and when things don’t go her way she will take it out on those around her. Gwyn suffers from serious anger issues, going from a smile to snarling rage in seconds. She lacks empathy and remorse, and has a viciousness to her. While she has a regal bearing, her ability to inflict harm on those close to her without a second thought leaves most people scared of her, and even her closest allies fear to get on her bad side. She expects her orders to be followed, and does not like to be questioned by those under her.

For all of her issues, Gwyn is a surprisingly charming individual, and makes friends easily. However she trusts very few people to the extent that she trusts her inner circle, and cares for even less. She will happily turn on someone she doesn’t trust for the right price, or because they did something to get on her bad side. While she is charismatic and gregarious and enjoys carousing with the men and women under her command, she has been betrayed to the knights of mondolin by someone she thought a friend, and is more paranoid about showing her face or sharing her name with untrustworthy ilk like bandits. This is where Gareth the Black Lion, her second in command, comes into play, acting as her go-between with the bandits, delivering instructions and orders. She does her best to avoid killing her underlings, but when she’s pushed too far she has a tendency to snap.

Greed is a powerful driving force for Gywn. She lusts for both wealth and power, not only seeking to restore her birthright but to gain a position that will see her on top, or as close to the top as she can get, even if she has to be a puppet master. Gwyn possesses great tactical and strategic skill, and is capable of taking the resources at her disposal and using them to their fullest extent. She has plenty of experience leading men and women, training them and spurring them to fight. She is good at reading people, and can figure out what motivates them. Gwyn’s experience as a leader has earned her the loyalty of a small but well trained group of mercenaries. They work for Nyberrite Alliance as tactical consultants, a recent job that has seen her training the Red Fang.

She does not have a good relationship with her family, particularly Gawain and Leona. She feels that Gawain stole her childhood, her birthright and her parent’s love from her. Gwyn intends on restoring her birthright, and on top of that she intends on seeing him dead, and anyone else in her family who gets in her way. She blames Leona for her mother’s death, and intends on making her pay for that, too. She does have a soft spot for Arthur and Lily, who were young when her father made Gawain the heir to the family over her, and had no part in her losing her place as heir to the Aurora estates.

Gwyn doesn’t care about any race in particular. She will work with anyone regardless of them being a heanta, asentari, human, or eldari, and likewise She will kill anyone in her way. She will do any job, as long as She’s paid well, and will do her best to complete a contract. She is exceedingly selfish and uncaring too, and will always prioritize her life over another’s.

Likes
  • Decadence: rich Food, high society and expensive things, Gwyn likes being rich and showing it off.
  • Power: Power over others, magical or physical, really does it for Gwyn. The higher she climbs in status the better she feels, but there is never enough.
  • Lily and Arthur: She has always been fond of her youngest siblings, mostly because they never caused problems for her.

Dislikes
  • Gawain: he is the root of all the problems in her life, and she blames him for her turning out the way she did.
  • Being looked down on: Being spoken down to is something that really gets on Gwyn’s nerves, and she has no tolerance for it.
  • Unnecessary murder: Gwyn has never hesitated when it comes to ending lives, but she finds no appeal in unnecessary slaughter. People can be so much more useful when they're alive, especially when they want to stay that way.

Fears
  • Death: Pretty self explanatory, she likes being alive and want’s to preserve her life for as long as possible, especially because by her reckoning she’s far too important to die.
  • Incarceration: She’d rather die than go back to prison. Which is saying something.
  • Jellyfish: What the fuck is that squishy thing? Get it the fuck away from me this is terrible I’m never going swimming in the sea again.

Appearance

Gwyneth “Gwyn” Ferrum Aurora 004a1a10

Height: 5’11”
Weight: 140lbs
Appearance: Gwyn is tall, with a regal bearing. Her hair is long and naturally blonde much like the rest of her family. She has green eyes. Gwyn has an athletic build and is very graceful and fluid in her movements. She has lightly tanned skin. With all of this, she is quite attractive, and can be quite alluring when she feels like it.
Clothing: Gwyn wears a variety of clothing but the main thing to note is that she is always well dressed as is befitting a noble. Most of the time though, she wears her medium Armor, which consists of chainmail with a heart protector, plate pauldrons, and arm and shin guards.

Fighting style

General Fighting Tactics: Gwyn is an exceptional close ranged fighter, taking control of close to medium ranged fights with ease. Her time as a knight of mondolin has helped her develop excellent leadership skills. Team tactics, knowing where to attack and where to defend all come easy to her. She is a very aggressive fighter though, and favors offense over defense mainly because she doesn’t feel much pain and can take a beating. She backs up her toughness with good strength and has the magical power to keep her powers going.

Gwyn’s spirit powers focus on creating allies in combat, and buffing them or herself, while also having access to some offensive abilities. She likes to lead from the front and draw an opponent’s eye, letting them think she’s a weak link in a combat situation to catch them by surprise. She is not honorable and so dirty tricks are not off the table, and she’ll generally do what it takes to succeed, even if it costs an ally their life. Her main weakness lies in long ranged fighting, and the fact that she’s not the fastest doesn’t help. Gwyn favors the spear, while also keeping a mail breaker on hand for harder targets, and she is good enough with a sword when a smaller weapon is needed.

Heroic Trait: Go Down Fighting(durability)

Combat Stats-

Strength || Good
Speed ||  Average
Agility ||  Poor
Durability || Very Good
Stamina || Average
Magical power || Average

Strengths: Pain Tolerance: Gwyn barely feels pain, and has continued to fight after taking some serious injuries without so much as a hint that she’s hurting.

Well Rounded Fighter: Gwyn is a well rounded fighter, and is very capable with the collection of weapons she carries. While she is definitely a superb spear user, her skills with her mail breaker and sword are certainly not to be overlooked.

Weaknesses: Light weakness: she takes 25% more damage from light attacks.

Recklessness: Gwyn has a tendency to put herself at risk because of her offensive driven fighting style, high pain threshold and bad temper, taking hits she probably shouldn’t so that she can dish out some pain of her own, or by simply ignoring better judgement to act in anger.

Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Average

Background

History: Gwyneth “Gwyn” Ferrum Aurora was born to Uther and Gwen Ferrum Aurora, a prestigious noble couple from Mondolin. Both Uther and Gwen were former knights of Mondolin, and Gwen retired after Gwyn was born while Uther retired after taking over the family from his father. As such, Gwyn was raised with many expectations. Not only was she her father’s heir, she was expected to follow in her parents footsteps and bring honor to the family by following its creed.

Gwyn began training to become a knight at an early age, her studies ranging from swordsmanship, leadership, archery, magic and all other things her parents expected her to require to become what they hoped. Their expectations were high but she didn’t mind to much, because she got to spend plenty of time with her parents, her mother training her in swordsmanship, spearmanship and other knightly pursuits, while her father thought her about the family, other nobility and the duties she would have to perform when she took control of the family after him. And then when she was six, Gawain was born, and Gwyn was practically pushed aside for him. At least, that’s how she felt. She was given tutors, and rarely seen her parents, so of course she took it out on her little brother.

At first, she tried simple things, like hiding him in a closet or pushing him over, but her treatment of Gawain became crueler over time, often pinching or slapping him. Her behavior concerned her parents, who decided to keep her well away from him and occupied, which only made her resent him more. Leona was born when Gwyn was ten, and things only got worse from there. Gwyn asked to hold her but immediately dropped her on purpose. Fortunately her father managed to catch Leona before she hit the ground.

Gwyn found herself mostly ignored by her parents before long, and so she turned to occupying herself, mostly by training. She only became more Malicious towards Gawain, and sometimes Leona, however when Arthur was born she didn’t really care. Infact, she was somewhat nice to him, bringing him little toys and actually doting on him, though her parents did not trust her to hold him. When she was 16, she became a Squire in the knights of mondolin, and her abilities gained her plenty of attention from the other squires. Gwyn was considered a true prodigy, and her arrogance and blooming lust for power saw her rising to the top, and her cruelty saw her putting any squire who didn’t fall in line with her in their place.

While she was a promising knight there was worry over her actions. She often took training too far and on several occasions broke bones. Jensen Reinhart was eventually assigned as her master to try and instill some discipline in her, and for a time she was focused on learning from him. But she wasn’t interested in his philosophy of protecting the weak, and simply wanted to learn from the best blademaster the knights had to offer. Lily was born when she was seventeen, and

Gwyn would become a full knight when she was 23, and held the position for a few years before she got into a fight with another knight. Gwyn severely injured the man, and it took all of her family's influence to keep her from prison. She was however expelled from the knights at the behest of Jensen Reinhart, who had stopped training her a few years prior as she showed increasingly aggressive behavior. No longer a part of the knights, Gwyn was left with more time to explore her other talents.

Gwyn found her way into the seedier parts of Mondolin. She began to hire herself out as muscle for odd jobs, to make some coin or simply to enjoy breaking someone's bones, depending on her mood. It wasn’t long before she made a name for herself. She was discrete, going by a different name, and got in good with some of the gangs. Crime, she found, was one way to pass the time and make herself feel better about her life.

Unfortunately for Gwyn, the knights of mondolin got wind of her activities, and she was arrested. Furious, her father stripped her of her title, and made Gawain heir. And he did nothing to stop her going to prison this time. Her incarceration lasted less than a month, however, before she managed to ensnare the mind of one of her guards and had him set her free. She broke into her old home and stole Calaburn, before fleeing to the freelands. She spent the first few months doing odd jobs around Karem, fighting in the pits or playing hired thug. As she made a name for herself working in the freeland’s seediest city, she spent her time planning a grand return to mondolin.

Gwyn eventually returned to her former home, intent on taking back what she believed belonged to her. She broke into the house, took out any of the guards who got in her way and confronted her parents, and begged her father to make her his heir again. She even offered him back Caliburn. When he denied her, her begging turned to demands, as she ranted about how they had always hated her ever since Gawain was born. Still he refused, and called her a disgrace to her family name before telling her to leave his sight and never return. Something in Gwyn snapped and she ripped Caliburn from it’s sheath. She attacked, slashing at him violently in a fit of rage, and killed him. Gawain burst in along with Leona, and Gwyn came face to face with the person who had destroyed her life. She went for her brother like a mad woman, and he probably would have been finished if not for Leona who kept getting in the way of her. Gwyn lunged at her with Caliburn, intent on running her through, when their mother jumped into the path of the weapon. Gwyn attempted to abort, but too late, and the sword punched through her mother with ease, stopping inches from Leona.

Her rage vanished as the shock of what she had just done sunk in, and she fled the house. She was of course pursued but easily evaded capture this time, and once again returned to the freelands. She felt no remorse for killing her father, but her mother was a different story. She went back to working as a mercenary, joining up with the dying suns for a time. However she was mostly looked down on by the leadership and their lack of respect for her was enough to make her abandon them. Instead she decided to establish her own mercenary company, working for the highest bidder.

Of all of her inner circle, she met Gareth first, and they swiftly became friends. Wendra, Ishmael, Tari, and Remir joined them later. Each was a capable warrior, and together they found a few other good fighters, and got themselves a contract in Oleas. She used a false name, to avoid attention from Mondolin, and they were given the task of reducing the bandit population. Of course, bandit hunting presented unique opportunities, including a fresh supply of extra hands in the form of reformed bandits. Usually they would take out the bandits leadership, since Gwyn did not tolerate challengers, then offer the remaining sorry lot a chance at greatness.

With a surge in recruits, Gwyn was able to create a nice little racket, by using some of her men as bandits that she would then hunt down and "put to the sword." They got the loot, they got paid and there was always more bandits to hunt. Her success allowed her to grow a name for herself In Oleas, and her mercenary outfit was given better contracts. They worked their way up until Gwyn was able to secure them a new contract by a member of the ardorian conclave's leadership as personal security. This was not achieved through action alone. Gwyn performed substantial tampering with the minds of others to find out who on the council would be most open to hiring her outfit, and also might have bigger ambitions, because gwyn wasn't just looking for a paycheck, she was also trying to find herself a puppet, someone she could influence easily on the council.

She eventually found herself a perfect mark in the form of in the form of Draven Wells, a member of the council who lusted for power and control. He was so easy to manipulate Gwyn didn't even need to use her powers on him. Draven wanted to take control of the ardorian conclave for himself and create his own kingdom in the south west freelands that would one day rival Mondolin, and Gwyn was happy to help him. A puppet king would certainly make things much easier when it came to reclaiming her birthright from her brother.

Within a few weeks, everything was poised for them to perform a rather eventful coup. Gwyn spent that time finding members of Oleas and Zadartis' armies who would support the campaign, using her powers, seduction and promises to get the right people on board. However, all good plans had a weakness, and that was the people involved. Everything was set to take place at a meeting in Zadartis, however someone had tipped off the order of the sun, who helped the conclave’s council escape the city before the coup began. On top of that, Oleas’ standing army was moved to the city. Gwyn's coup ended before it started, Draven was captured and she was forced into a steeper fight than she expected when several knights of Mondolin showed up to apprehend her. She lost substantial forces, her 3000 strong mercenary outfit was reduced by almost half and much of the support found in the army turned on them, before her company disintegrated completely. Gwyn, Gareth and the rest of her inner circle escaped the blood bath, along with a small force of her warriors.

After that failed travesty, Gwyn travelled to Karem with her inner circle. She suspected everyone of her inner circle as her betrayer, except Gareth, so she was sure to fill them in on her plans one by one. She told each of them something different, though they were all false plans. Sure enough there was a group of knights waiting for her in Karem, exactly where she told Tari they would be going. Gwyn easily avoided the knights, and headed back out of Karem, managing to hold on to the building rage brought around by Tari’s betrayal. Out in the dark woods, she revealed the truth to her followers. Tari, of course, denied everything, claiming it could have been any of them until Gwyn explained she had told each of them something different, at which point Tari turned and attacked her. He got no closer than a foot, before Ishmeal smashed his leg from beneath him with a lethal swing of his hammer. Gareth cut Tari’s hands off in two clean strokes, while the others watched. Gwyn kicked him onto his back, and smiled down at him.

“I was about to give us everything we could ever want, and you betrayed me for what? Gold and whores?” She asked. Tari chuckled. “I stood to gain a lot more than what you’d ever give. You don’t care about us, we’re just more men, like the ones you let die. Like the ones who’s minds you break.” He replied. Gwyn screamed and slammed her foot down on his face. “That’s a fucking lie!” She said, smashing his head again and again under her boot. “You were my family! Real family not the fuckers who disowned me in Mondolin!” She kept stomping, Tari’s head turned into a bloody mush. “Fuck you you fucking fuck!” Someone grabbed her shoulders and pulled her away. It was Gareth. The other’s watched them as he did his best to calm her rage.

They didn’t bury Tari, instead leaving his remains to the wild animals and heanta. No less than he deserved. Then they headed for Karcenak, a city built on slavery, and tried to find more work. They had a few encounters with the Red fang, but while the bandit group was notorious they were no match for Gwyn’s mercenaries. Still, she had heard rumors they were muscle for the Nyberrite alliance, and let most of them live. She wasn’t trying to make enemies after all. They settled down in Karcenak, plenty of money for them to get a place and start building themselves back up.  Finding contracts was easier, and they managed to gather fresh recruits and outfit a nice force. However after what had happened with Tari and her multiple run-ins with the knights of Mondolin because of him, she decided that it was too much of a risk to associate with fresh recruits and clientele, and so Gareth took over as her representative. She didn’t bother with an alias, since her name was known now by anyone worth knowing after the whole fiasco. Even so, she had plenty to keep her busy, including seeking better work for her mercenaries, because Gwyn wasn’t satisfied with table scraps. She had just lost a chance at a kingdom, but that didn’t mean she had to give up. So she started to send out feelers, in search of a new benefactor.

Gwyn eventually got somewhere, when word of her search made it back to the Master, the then ruler of Karcenak, who invited Gwyn for dinner. Word of what had occurred in the south had reached him, and he was rather impressed with her work. He offered Gwyn a contract with the city, hunting slaves and fighting protecting his trade routes from do-gooders. It wasn’t the best, but he paid well, and it didn’t bother her too much what her men did, because she didn’t have to deal with it, except when things went wrong. They were nothing more than Glorified bandits at this point, much like the Dying suns who had fallen from grace. But unlike the dying suns, Gwyn did not take on idiotic contracts.

A couple of months passed, and the Master was slain in his home atop the hill. Gwyn hadn’t been present, but it turned out that he had played with fire, or someone with fire abilities, and gotten burned, along with a good portion of the city. A week hadn’t passed, before she received a message from an unknown source. She had Gareth and Ishmael follow it up, and was surprised to find one of the leaders of the Red Fang, Lina Hargrave, had an offer for her from the Nyberrite Alliance no less. It started off much the same, hunting slaves and protecting trade routes, but soon they were fighting the Alliance’s enemies in the south, attacking the Ardorian Conclave’s high value targets.

And then, the Dying Suns were wiped out in a single evening, or thereabouts, and several Red Fang bands were attacked. Juresh Enyo, one of the Red Fang’s many leaders and current Ruler of Karcenak, attempted to take Aline Drexara and through her, control of Edaria. He was cut down by a small force of Asentari and humans from the order of the sun. Following this, Gwyn was given a new task. One was to retrieve Lina Hargrave’s Undari, which she sent Ishmael to take care of, and the other was turn the Red Fang into a proper fighting force, as opposed to bandits and thugs. Her own mercenary band only numbered around the hundreds but they were leagues above most of them because of her rigorous training regimes, so she decided to break them up into groups, and have them integrate with the Red Fang, to impart their training. Her inner circle also split up, each joining one of the Red fang leaders as advisors. She kept close with Gareth, letting him continue acting as her double, since her next step brought her closer to the Order, a dangerous foe that the Nyberrite alliance intended on taking out of the picture for good.
