Human

Character information

Name: Gohan Maedar
Appearance Age: 19
True age: 21
Sex: Male
Personality: A product of a secluded and monastic upbringing, Gohan is a good-natured and steadfast young man with a strong moral code and an open mind. Quick to smile and slow to anger, Gohan tries his best to be the best person he can be. He has honed both body and mind, seeking to constantly push the limits of what a Human can achieve.

Likes:

  • Mysteries: Gohan is an immensely curious and inquisitive young man, and in fact these traits are the reason for his travels in the current time. He loves to learn about new lands and peoples, but his main love is solving a good mystery, either magical or mundane. On top of his love for solving mysteries in the greater world, Gohan also loves solving mysteries within himself as well. He enjoys training in the myriad martial arts he has studied, but also training his mind with regular meditation.
  • The Natural World: Though he has no problem residing in taverns or other man-made structures where necessary, Gohan is truly at home out in the world. His life with the Qowat Milat enclave have given him a comfort and appreciation for the way Asmir’s inherent magical energies interact with its wildlife and the very land itself. Being in the wild makes it very easy for Gohan to center himself and focus on whatever his next task may be.
  • Helping People: Gohan is at heart a gentle and good-natured young man, and he takes great enjoyment from helping others in need, though he tries to avoid credit where possible. He is as close as you can be to a truly altruistic soul.

Dislikes:

  • Fighting: As strong and righteous as Gohan is, he actively tries to avoid fighting where possible. He will stand up for himself or to protect someone else without hesitation, but he will always try to find a peaceful solution when he can.
  • Harming People: The main motivation behind his dislike of fighting, Gohan is highly averse to hurting people. With his immense power, Gohan sees it as his personal responsibility to make sure his power doesn’t hurt innocents or damage the ecology of Asmir. If pushed far enough, he will retaliate with force, but only if an innocent is in danger or if he has no other choice.
  • Injustice: Gohan believes that the good in the world benefits and enriches more people than the greedy and basic instincts of the less noble elements of society. He finds the very concept of exploiting another for one’s own goal to be utterly abhorrent.

Fears:

  • Causing Death: The next level of Gohan’s aversion to hurting people, the prospect of his power leading to the ending of one’s life is terrifying to him. He will avoid killing someone unless at the very utmost of need, when someone close to him is in danger and he has exhausted all other options.
  • Unnatural Use of Magic: The Qowat Milat enclave have taught Gohan how to feel the very fabric of magic in the world, fighting alongside it as an ally, as opposed to wielding it like a tool or a weapon. As such, he regards those who bend magic energy to such feats as mass destruction, the unnatural extending of one’s life or other brutal ends to be feared for their lack of regard for the natural way of things.
  • War: The worst case scenario for a pacifistic being like Gohan. Wars have never produced any major positive results, only untold death and destruction, especially on a continent as tumultuous as Asmir Ka’Lesa.

Appearance

Height: 6’ 4”
Weight: 225 lbs
Appearance:
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Gohanb10
Gohan Maedar's physical appearance is very much a product of his upbringing. A tall and muscular young man, Gohan’s imposing build is juxtaposed against his kind and good-natured face. He has sharp and defined features that he inherited from his father, while he also has his mother’s soft eyes and peachy complexion. His hair is black and swept back into spikes with a single bang drooping down over the right side of his forehead, and he has dark brown eyes.
Clothing: As a student of the Qowat Milat enclave, Gohan dresses in simple and functional attire. His usual outfit consists of a blue martial arts gi, complete with red obi and shin wraps, and black travel boots. When traveling on long and/or difficult journeys, he brings a brown travel cloak.

Fighting style

General Fighting Tactics: Gohan is an intelligent and technically skilled fighter, when he is forced into a confrontation. He only goes all out if he believes he has no other choice, instead preferring to end a fight with as few casualties as possible. Primarily, Gohan is a martial artist, and so his prowess in hand-to-hand combat should not be underestimated. If he needs range for a situation, he will rely on his weaker abilities for the most part, only using his stronger abilities if he has to or if there is little risk of innocents being caught in the crossfire. In melee, Gohan will always try for a knockout first, utilizing his rangy limbs and enchanted wristbands to bypass an opponent’s defenses and end the fight as quickly as possible.

Against tougher opponents where a quick knockout is not an option, Gohan will harry the opponent with weak ranged attacks, while relying on his impressive defensive skills to protect him while he waits for his opponent to make a mistake, thus allowing him to carve an opening for a possible disarm and/or knockout. Though he actively avoids killing, sometimes this is not possible and when Gohan is put in a situation where his back is against a wall and he has to end a fight decisively, he does possess the raw power to do so. However, it takes real pressure to force his hand in such a way, but when he is set on ending things, he will begin unleashing his full arsenal of powers, making use of his vast Magical Power reserves to overpower his opponent.

Gohan’s training consisted of a large amount of spiritual and meditative exercises, but the Qowat Milat are not naive enough to believe that the world is as peaceful a place as Imladris. They extensively train in self-defense, with their signature style being their Five-Form martial arts. The Five-Form martial arts are so named because of the five stances the user can switch between to deal with a given situation. The five forms are each based on an animal revered by the Qowat Milat: Snake, Panther, Tiger, Crane and Dragon. Each of these forms has its own strengths and style of attack as follows:

Gohan Maedar (WIP) Stance13
This form is characterized by open-handed strikes. The hands are used for penetrating chops and focused, lightning-fast finger strikes. Because the snake is a calm and deliberate animal, it has more relaxed energy compared to the other forms: when the practitioner cultivates this energy, the combination of relaxation is mixed with quick, piercing strikes.
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Stance10
The crane form is characterized by circular motions, relaxed power as well as sudden and focused attacks. A calm, meditative animal, the crane can stand on one leg for hours, without shifting its weight or growing restless: therefore, his form helps the practitioner hold his internal energy, which develops strength while building bones and muscles. The crane form is known for using the "beak" to strike targets such as the temple, and also for its long, extended strikes that mimic outstretched wings.
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Stance14
The tiger is said to be the king of all land beasts, therefore, the Qowat Milat adopted the spirit of the tiger for its courage, strength and power. The tiger's strength comes from hard-pressing attacks: developing a strong back and neck is essential for strong stances. The primary technique in the tiger form is the tiger claw, which targets the opponent's face, neck, groin, arms and wrist. The tiger form also utilizes palm strikes, fists and special kicking techniques, such as the tiger tail kick.
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Stance12
Though the panther is a smaller animal than the tiger, it is believed to be, pound for pound, stronger. The panther relies on lightning-fast movements, and powerful force that is produced from relaxed, whip-like techniques. It is important for the practitioner to develop a flexible waist, which allows him to develop quick and short footwork, as well as explosive strikes. The main technique used in this form is a panther fist that penetrates vital areas of the opponent's body, such as the throat, solar plexus and groin. There are also many elbow and forearm techniques.
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Stance11
Gohan’s personal favorite of the Five Forms. The Dragon Form combines internal and external energy to produce sudden, explosive strikes, characterized by circular movements and penetrating force. Though the claw is the primary hand technique, there are also various palm and fist attacks that add to the Dragon Form's effectiveness. However, using the waist in a whipping action to generate power is essential to the development of proper Dragon energy.

Heroic Trait: Magical Spirit

Combat Stats-

Strength || Average
Speed || Fair
Agility || Good
Durability || Poor
Stamina || Average
Magical Power || Excellent

Strengths:

  • Master Martial Artist: Gohan has studied with the Qowat Milat enclave since he could walk and talk, and a significant part of this training has been in the form of martial arts. Though they are a pacifistic order by nature, the Qowat Milat do practice hand-to-hand fighting as both a way to hone the body, and a means of self-defense. Gohan has possessed preternatural skill from a young age, and he has grown into one of their most skilled fighters.
  • Defensive Solidity: Not only did Gohan’s training grant him excellent fighting skills, but the Qowat Milat’s unique fighting style and philosophy have in particular made him supremely adept in defense. With a combination of reflexes and hand-eye coordination, Gohan is able to form an almost impenetrable barrier against the tide, which allows him to bide his time and wait for an opponent’s mistake to give him the opening he needs to score a

Weaknesses:

  • Inexperienced Combatant: Gohan is an adept fighter, but his aversion to fighting means that in terms of real-world combat experience, he does come up lacking. Though he learns quickly, he is also susceptible to underhanded tactics and subterfuge. He has trouble with combatants that fight dirty.
  • Pacifistic Nature: Gohan is an honorable and gentle person, but his gentle nature is as much a hindrance as a virtue at times. His reluctance to kill is the main thing that gets him in trouble, with opponents using Gohan’s mercy against him to get back in the fight. Coupled with his aversion to going all out in a fight, Gohan can be his own worst enemy sometimes, despite his best intentions.

Equipment

Primary Equipment
Name: Gohan’s Lucky Wristbands
Type: Trinket
Description:
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Wristb10
A pair of red wristbands that match Gohan’s obi and shin wraps. They were given to him upon reaching the highest level possible in the Qowat Milat enclave, and they conceal a useful enchantment within them.
Enchantments:

Name: Combat Armaments
Type: Defensive
Damage Category: None
Description: Gohan’s wristbands come equipped with a useful enchantment for the unfortunate times where the peaceful traveler is forced into combat. With a thought from their wearer, these wristbands project a magical force-field over his hands and extend up the arm to just after the elbow. The force-field provides the protection of divinium over covered areas, allowing him to deliver or block strikes without damaging his limbs.
Cooldown: Lasts until dismissed

Name: Spirit Barrier
Type: Defensive
Damage Category: Strong
Description: Gohan can cross his wristbands together, forming a protective barrier around him which can stop up to Strong damage, with anything stronger being reduced by that amount. The barrier only exists for an instant, and covers only himself.
Cooldown: 4 posts

Secondary Equipment
Name: Gohan’s Travel Knife
Type: Long Knife
Description:
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Knife10
An ornamental piece given to him by his master in the Quwat Milat enclave, this knife is used mostly as a survival tool while Gohan travels the land. The weapon is 18 inches long from pommel to tip, and features a curved single edge that resembles half of a leaf, expanding before tapering in sharply. The spine is straight, making the blade excellent for both piercing and cutting as the situation demands. Gohan mainly uses this blade to skin animals, cut kindling, and other sundry tasks. A whetstone is contained in a small pouch attached to the scabbard to keep the blade sharp, and the scabbard is mounted across his lower back to allow ease of access.

Custom Powers

Battle Mode

Appearance:
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Super_11
When Gohan enters this mode, he allows large amounts of magical energy to flow through him, causing him to undergo a dramatic physical change. His hair becomes golden, with his eyes becoming a shining emerald color. His features sharpen somewhat, and his body becomes enveloped in a golden aura.

Name: Ki Blast
Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Very Weak x10

Cooldown: 1 post

Name: Masenko
Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Average
Description: Gohan places both hands above his head with the palms facing the target and one hand in front of the other with the fingers going in opposite directions. When Gohan thrusts his hands forward, he fires a beam of yellow-orange energy. The beam has a range of 50 ft.

Type: Defensive
Damage Category: Average
Description: Gohan charges his ki and lets forth a large white barrier to repel attacks and opponents. Energy projects outwards to a 5 ft radius. The energy repels attacks of up to Average strength, with anything stronger being reduced by that amount. A secondary effect of this technique is that anything within the radius that is not nailed down is knocked back by the force of it, with the precise effect determined by the strength and size of the affected entity, though no damage is inflicted by the barrier itself. This ability is affected by Beast Form.
Cooldown: 3 posts

Name: Energy Sense
Type: Support
Damage Category: None
Description: A technique taught to all students of the Qowat Milat enclave. Gohan can sense the presence of a being with Magical Power, even if he cannot see them. This is not a precise method of locating a target however, as it only narrows it down to a 20 ft radius, but it has a maximum range of 200 yards. Gohan cannot distinguish individual people’s power, but he can tell roughly how much Magical Power they possess and what race they are. He can narrow down a Magical Power signature down to an exact location, but this requires a post of physical inactivity and intense concentration.
Cooldown: Passive

Enhanced Battle Mode (Unlocked at R-1)

Appearance:
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Super_10
In this mode, Gohan’s appearance remains similar to Battle Mode, but with a few notable differences. His hair lengthens slightly and his features become even sharper, and the golden aura begins to pulsate faster with blue lightning-like secondary aura, reflecting the increased energy output.

New powers

Name: Soaring Dragon Fist
Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Strong
Description: Gohan charges his fist with a primal energy borne of the most basic instincts of a Human, enveloping the appendage with bright golden energy. He then throws a punch either towards the target or towards the ground, and the golden energy erupts forth. The energy takes the form of a beam with the head of a mighty Dragon at the front, and speeds towards the target with hostile intent. On impact, the energy detonates, causing an explosion in a 10 ft radius that deals Strong damage to anything caught within it. The energy beam has a range of 50 ft, and Gohan is immune to his own energy explosion. This ability is affected by Beast Form, with the beam becoming a deep crimson in color.
Cooldown: 3 posts

Name: Special Beam Cannon
Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Strong
Description: Gohan touches the index and middle fingers of one hand to his forehead and charges energy to attack. Gohan cannot move while charging and must concentrate, with the charge-up failing if he is interrupted. When ready, the fingers are extended forward, and two thin orange energy beams are unleashed from the fingers. One remains straight while the other coils around the straight beam. The resulting beam is quite powerful, drilling through most targets, and exploding on the ones it can't. This beam can penetrate heavy armor, but can be repelled by a strong enough magical defense. This ability is affected by Beast Form, with the beam becoming shining blue in color. In addition, this ability can be charged for an extra post while in Beast Form, and if so it will penetrate magical defenses as well.
Cooldown: 1 or 2 post charge, 3 post cooldown

Name: Beast Form
Type: Support
Damage Category: None
Description:
Gohan Maedar (WIP) Finalb10
Gohan unleashes both the primal energy of a Human combined with the natural energy from the environment that he has now become a conduit for, in order to utilize this powerful temporary form. The physical transformation for this form is the most dramatic yet. Gohan’s hair lengthens to over triple his normal hair length and turns silver, while his irises become a deep crimson. His body becomes subtly more muscular, and his aura changes to alternate between blue and red, and the lightning-like secondary aura becomes red as well.

In this form, Gohan gains a +1 to Strength, Speed, Agility and Durability. Also, this form powers up certain abilities as noted in their descriptions, increasing their damage category by 1 with the appropriate increase to PP cost and cooldown. This ability has a maintenance cost of 3 PP per post, and lasts for 3 posts or until dismissed. Due to the massive amount of strain put on Gohan’s body by this ability, once it ends he is dropped into Exhaustion Stage 3 for the remainder of the thread.
Cooldown: Once per thread
New Boosts: Strength +1, Speed +2, Agility +1, Durability +2, Magical Power +3

Background

History:
Early Life
Born in 980 of the Second Age, Gohan Maedar is a clever and kind young man that epitomizes the unbridled hope of the future. The eldest son of Goku and Chi-Chi Maedar, Gohan has a younger brother named Goten, and both were brought up in the Qowat Milat enclave by their proud parents. The Qowat Milat is a secretive enclave of pacifistic monks that reside in Imladris, a small settlement in a hidden valley in the mountains that lie on the southern border of the Kingdom of Mondolin. They are a monastic order that worships the land itself, specifically revering the primal magical energies that comprise Asmir herself. Goku and Chi-Chi both grew up in the enclave, and they brought their children up in the same traditions and practices as they themselves were taught. They did their best to provide a healthy and fulfilling start to life for their children, and this reflects in the person Gohan grew up to be.

From an early age, Gohan began studying with the Qowat Milat monks, first learning to read and write before moving on to more spiritual pursuits. The Qowat Milat’s main tenets were peace, enlightenment and balance. Peace was achieved by living in a remote area of southern Mondolin mountains. They were not isolationists or xenophobes by any stretch, in fact it was quite the opposite. They embraced and welcomed outsiders on the rare occasions that someone stumbled across Imladris, and their pilgrims often returned enriched and fulfilled having experienced the world at large. However, they also sought not to draw unnecessary attention to themselves from unwanted eyes, thus reducing the chance of any encounters turning hostile. Several enchantments on the area ensured that the true location of Imladris remained secret, and that any that accidentally stumbled across it would not remember it once they left its borders. Any lost or stricken travelers would simply wake up just outside the borders of Imladris, fully restored and equipped with the supplies and gear needed to survive wherever they were going, with no knowledge of their peril or rescue.

This existence allowed Imladris to fully become one with Asmir, and to live in peace and safety. A settlement that sustained a population of around a hundred, Imladris was a sanctuary of life and magic. The Qowat Milat are adept magic-users, which in itself is unusual for a Human faction, but their particular approach to magic is quite different compared to the likes of the Eldari. Where the Eldari practise bending magic and the elements to their will, the Qowat Milat believe in working with magic and the elements as allies. They allow magic energy to flow through them, offering gentle direction for those forces while also allowing the elements to guide them as well. In order to best facilitate this unity, the Qowat Milat hone both mind and body to reach the best version one can.

This pursuit of enlightenment took several forms. To hone the mind, Gohan studied various subjects to expand his knowledge, including geography, history and mathematics. He also spent a great deal of time meditating and conversing with the village elders for wisdom. This resulted in Gohan becoming a well-read and insightful young man, who was patient and creative in everything he did. Gohan honed his body by training hard with his Master, Androvar Sitaan. Master Sitaan was a stoic and tough teacher, but through hard work and a willingness to listen and learn, Gohan earned his respect and affection. Master Sitaan guided Gohan through the physical exercises of the Qowat Milat, including both calisthenics that focused on balance and poise, to the signature martial art of the Qowat Milat, the Five-Form martial arts.

Though the Five-Form martial arts had obvious practical applications in the outside world, the main focus in Imladris was the nature aspect of the art. The belief was that the more one practiced and mastered the Five Forms, the more they would reflect the qualities and strengths of the five animals involved. Gohan was a naturally gifted fighter to whom the Five Forms came easy, and he soon became the premier martial artist in the village. Complementing this was Gohan’s rare ability to channel huge amounts of Magical Power through him, making him capable of unleashing truly devastating energy attacks if he was so inclined. Fortunately, though he practiced various energy techniques taught to him by Master Sitaan, Gohan was loath to put them to use, wary of causing damage to Asmir or any innocents caught in the way.

This dichotomy of Gohan’s immense power and combat prowess coupled with his natural passiveness and pacifism caused Gohan’s mind to conflict with itself at times. Gohan possessed a strong sense of justice, and there were times growing up when he questioned whether his chosen path was enough. Should he impose himself on the evil of the world, and thus put his immense strength into service for good? Or should he stay true to his peaceful side and avoid confrontation , thus minimizing the risk of collateral damage to innocents? It is a question that does not have a single answer, and so with Master Sitaan’s guidance Gohan settled on a balance. He avoids conflict where possible, but when left no other choice he will step in to defend the innocent. Over the course of his life to date, Gohan’s will would be tested in various ways as he progressed through his life.

Training and Enlightenment
Once he was old enough, Gohan began to learn more about the world under the tutelage of Master Sitaan. Sitaan was a close friend of Gohan’s parents, and he was also the enclave’s most respected Elder. Gohan learned a lot from his master, from the aforementioned martial arts to the history of the enclave. Most intriguing to young Gohan, however, was the stories and tales Master Sitaan told him of the outside world. Though it seemed a tumultuous place, there was also a color and beauty all its own that was conveyed through both Master Sitaan’s stories and the recollections of returning wanderers who had traveled Asmir as part of their journey to enlightenment. Gohan looked forward to his own journey with great anticipation, and Master Sitaan was aware of this wanderlust within his ward. So he vowed to make sure Gohan was as prepared as possible for whatever he encountered on his journey.

As Gohan approached the age of sixteen, the earliest age at which he would be permitted to leave Imladris to travel, Master Sitaan pushed the young man hard in his training. Though Master Sitaan was a tough teacher for all of his students, he had developed a soft spot for Gohan, as the young man was not only unafraid of Sitaan, but he also treated him as a true friend. Gohan’s warmth and unending enthusiasm for learning also contributed, and Sitaan developed a bond with the young man that was rare for the venerable master outside of the other Elders and peers. In return, Gohan used Master Sitaan’s considerable wisdom and experience to better himself and his village. He helped wherever possible, and he soon became very popular with the other residents as a helpful and kind soul. When his younger brother Goten was born, it became even more important to set a good example for those coming after him.

It was also during this time that Gohan discovered his magical powers. During a particularly tough sparring session with Master Sitaan, the Elder attempted a palm strike and was met with a stiff block and blonde hair. In his moment of need, Gohan had managed to tap into the magical potential of a Human, a state which some called “Battle Mode”. In Gohan’s case, the Qowat Milat’s ethos of letting the magic flow through them rather than brandishing it like a tool resulted in the rather dramatic transformation. Though there were many in Imladris, Master Sitaan and the other Elders included, who could utilize this state, Gohan’s unique take on the form led to speculation from the Elders that Gohan possessed a reserve of Magical Power that far exceeded that of anyone else in Imladris. This led to Master Sitaan upping his training regiment, teaching Gohan his most advanced energy techniques. Before long though, it would be time for Gohan to make his next step.

The Traveler, Part One
At the age of sixteen, Gohan was old enough to venture out into the world to learn more about the world than what he could learn through books or stories. Though some young people chose to delay their journeys to give them more time to prepare, Gohan was eager to leave as soon as he was permitted. He wanted to learn and grow, and he also wanted to amass stories and experiences that he could pass on to Goten and the others in his village.
