Personality: Isolde has little patience for ignorance and while not unappreciative of company is someone who enjoys plenty of time to herself. She speaks when she sees reason to and remains quiet when she doesn't and similarly she does not wear her emotions unless she feels secure in the company she is with. She could be considered a dull person for the most part, though it would be wrong to say that she lacks a sense of humor even if it is unusually crude for someone who was born of even minor nobility. While she does not demand it or find herself driven by it more strongly than her other motivations, Isolde is also someone who appreciates praise and acknowledgement to enough of a degree that it's one way to get on her good side if not laid on too heavily.

More powerful a drive than acknowledgement for Isolde is her will to understand the building blocks that compose the world around her and bring that knowledge to the rest of humanity. To this end she walks a thin line of ethics in her observations but is determined to not cross it if she can conduct her research without doing so. Her other studies required by her duty have not been pursued with as much interest, but she has kept up with them anyway because it is expected of her. That said, she far prefers the more relaxed environment and expectations of her social inferiors and finds them easier to get along with.



Isolde fashions herself a realist both philosophically and in her acceptance of known circumstances, and is also believes herself more grounded than past alchemists whose findings she has disproven in her cataloging and experiments thus far. However, whether out of simple desire that something like it might exist or continued belief in things that have neither been proven or disproven to exist, she seeks the panacea legendary among the alchemical community for being able to cure even the condition of aging so that she can continue her studies long after she would have otherwise died.


Isolde also takes little joy in fighting, but her compassion as well as need to defend herself has led her into no small amount of it. Nevertheless, she is often ruthless in battle such that she usually kills her opponents outright by opening with spells that are often too powerful for them. Just as regular fighting with such spells usually leaves her fatigued, the fervor with which she pursues her alchemical research often denies her a normal amount of sleep and is often claimed by her and others for why she appears to have aged relatively poorly.

Fears: Dying before she contributes anything to the world, becoming mentally ill, blowing herself up or otherwise suffering grievous injury from her experiments.

Appearance

Appearance: Isolde is a pale young woman from spending a majority of her time inside buildings. Her body is lean and muscular from lugging around bags of equipment and the area under her eyes varies in darkness depending on whether she has been getting enough sleep, has been working in poorly lit conditions or been fatiguing herself through frequent fighting lately. While there are a handful of small scars from various incidents, they are spread out and her body is otherwise unblemished. Her hands and the bottoms of her feet have some callouses forming, but the rest of her skin is smooth, soft and well hydrated.
Clothing: She typically wears inexpensive, durable and practical garments with only a minimum attention paid to how they match together, but for social events she is partial to comfortably fitting green dresses, black soft leather boots raised past her ankles and long silk gloves.

Fighting style


General Fighting Tactics: Isolde when forced to fight prefers to open with powerful magic at range and proceed with less powerful magic from there until she can cast something stronger again, but if forced to fight in melee range or if her magic would endanger an ally she can and will beat people senseless with her staff. If appropriate she may also use alchemical concoctions as weapons or to otherwise assist others fighting.

Strengths: Isolde has sharp senses that make her adept at catching small details in her observations of experiments, has a very good memory and a resistance to the lightning element (30%).

Weaknesses: As a result of damage in her early experiments, prolonged physical activity of a significant degree (Swinging her staff around and beating people with it, running around with notable weight on or in hot weather) can cause her complications that leave her sluggish and in pain and if pushed further could take her out of action for a while or threaten her life. She also has no training with weapons other than daggers and her staff and can't use them effectively against any competent combatant. She is somewhat more vulnerable to fire (30%).

Weapons


Primary Weapon I: A divinium staff with a weighted ball on the end to make it more suitable for clubbing. It is simple in design but functions well both as a support when walking as well as channeling magical power through. It allows for faster and easier casting than otherwise, but is not a requirement for her to cast in itself.
Enchantment:It can become significantly lighter or revert to its former weight in an instant and on mental command, allowing it to provide support for a weakened wielder without the weight being a problem, as well as allowing it to be moved quickly to block blows.
Primary Weapon II: A short and easily concealable dagger.
Secondary Weapon: Her bag contains many different substances that could be used effectively on their own or mixed under certain conditions, but they are hardly ideal for use on the fly.

Damage Category: Very strong
Description: A much stronger version of Thunder that bombards a 20ft area. Whether it is being struck by multiple weaker converging bolts or one strong bolt, the result is the same for all affected. In the case there are too few people to divide the bolts among, excess bolts will miss by virtue of a lack of direct control on part of the caster and the final damage for any one person will be very strong. maximum Range from the center to the caster is 150 ft. Shortly after casting begins, the smell of ozone can be picked up within 50 ft of the area to be bombarded and the casting requires both gestures used for focusing as well as a chant the caster has associated with it for the same purpose. Charges for one post before activating.

Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Weak
Description: A raw outburst of unfocused electrical energy, it can hardly be called a spell for simply converting magical energy to electricity after tossing it out but it can be used much quicker and without much concentration at all, leaving only the small warning of aggressive gesturing of the arm towards the target against getting a nasty but non-fatal shock and sometimes burns. Range 15ft.

Type: Offensive
Damage Category: Strong
Description: Condenses magical energy into an area and rapidly converts it efficiently into heat energy and force, resulting in a small but powerful explosion. As it is not fire, it shares neither its elemental advantages nor weaknesses and is resisted only by protections against extremely high temperatures and significant bludgeoning force. However it may ignite items that can be ignited by heat alone if unreliably. Range is 100 ft, blast radius is 5 ft. Requires charging for one post after which minor corrections can be made before detonating. Requires a 15 word chant associated with it.

Type: Support
Damage Category:10xvery weak
Description: Generates electrical energy in the ground and forces it past the surface before letting it arc back into the ground. It forms 10 bolts that can either all leap out of the ground at once or one after the other. If one or more hit, the electricity is directed into loops that disrupt and jam communication between nerves, lowering agility and speed of the target by 2 points for one post. Requires she maintain concentration on the target for the duration and thus not turn her attention towards anyone else in the the meantime, and is wasted if none of the bolts hit. Has a maximum range of 50 ft and the bolts are restricted to 15ft square. Someone with sharp eyes may notice little arcing sparks just above the ground where the bolts are before entering the square.
Cooldown: 5 post cooldown.

Background


History: Isolde was born into a noble family that reigned over a fortress of significant location and size and which derived its name as well as well as that of the family from the fact that it was among and made use of the mountains in its makeup. While her three brothers focused on a more military oriented life, she dedicated herself to academia as much as she could within the expectations of her family and its role. Though she was unable to enter an apprenticeship to a master alchemist, she nevertheless was determined to pursue the path of one and learned from the writings and the occasional lecture of many until she was able to continue forward with her own research and experiments. While there were many suggestions for how to prevent harm to ones self or others as well as collateral damage in the books she studied from, they were inconsistent between sources and practically asking to be violated for testing what was really the most effective methods. It was during these tests that she developed a much more cautious approach to alchemy resulting from various incidents that caused her injuries. These included damage to her fingers from handling a powedered mix, an explosion caused by an open flame and inhaling a terrible gas that came with her first otherwise successful transmutation to a pure white substance.  Noting the danger of working practically blind with various materials, she made it her goal to not only catalog all the substances she worked with and her observations regarding them, but to put together a more formal and accurate set of guidelines for safety in alchemic practice in her first publication.  


In order to conduct accurate experiments and research, she needed materials that she could be sure she knew the exact details of how they had been harvested and the best method for that was to do the work herself. The world outside the walls of her home were dangerous however, and so she began traveling and working with bands of mercenaries in exchange for allowing her to collect what she needed from any place they were passing through. After a series of journies to distant lands she concluded it would be more efficient if she formed a band of her own and set aside some funds from her work until she was able to buy a hall to house some green adventurers and recruit them in the long run onto her payroll. Thus she founded the Company of the Basilisk's Eye and started taking a small cut of their income and setting a small portion of that to pay maintenance and upkeep in exchange for feeding, housing and equipping its members. With a dedicated group under her payroll, she was able to work more at her leisure and now has set her sights on traveling north into Heanta lands to gather materials only known to exist there before she publishes her first compilation paper on alchemy. 
Side notes: While there are roughly 20 adventurers under her employ and potentially more recruited every day by others, she rarely travels with more than five and currently only has three with the most experience accompanying her northward to keep expenses down.
